SDG 5
The Sustainable Development Goals, constituting fundamental steps in the improvement of living conditions worldwide are incredibly important. Personally, I highly value Goal 5 which – by setting an agenda that includes it – acknowledges the need for gender equality during a time when many incidents, varying from everyday situations to major scandals, demonstrate the persistence of injustice between men and women despite the – obviously inadequate – progress. I am a fervent supporter of emphasizing on it especially since the plain fact that such injustice takes place is being challenged. In that context, I have volunteered in campaigns, fighting to stop gender violence.
Secretary General
Welcome to Rhodes Model Regional Co-operation 2019! My name is Panagiotis Moumtsakis and I have the honour to serve as the Secretary General of Rhodes MRC 2019.
Practical, Outgoing, Pragmatic, Diplomatic, Adventure Seeker
Panagiotis Moumtsakis was born in the picturesque city of Kavala and he is currently studying Politics and Public Policy at Sciences Po. At undergraduate level, he graduated as valedictorian of his class, completing his studies with honors at University of Macedonia, in the department of International and European Studies, specializing in politics and diplomacy. For his performance so far, he received the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation Scholarship for his studies in Paris.
Panagiotis firstly became involved in model UN as a second year university student, participating in BISMUN 2015. Since then, he has been consistently involved with model UN and participated in numerous simulations in national, regional and international level.
Outside the world of MUN, Panagiotis completed his internships at the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence of the University of Macedonia, at the Embassy of Greece in London, at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and carried out a short traineeship as a Political and Social Analyst in the activities of the Greek base of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Greece. Today, he is in charge of the team “Dialogue of Youth”, a local project aiming at the political activation of youth in Kavala.
RhodesMRC Memory
Rhodes MRC has been a fascinating experience for me. Although I did not perform to the best of my abilities the first time I attended (being more inexperienced with public speaking at the time), I would have to single out the last day as my favorite memory of the conference overall. During that time, I was able to overcome my hesitation and engage more actively in the discussions of the committee. That served as motivation to further work on necessary soft skills and looking back, I am thankful for having been part of this experience that helped my personal growth.
