SDG 5

My favorite SDG is Goal no 1: End Poverty in All its Forms. While global poverty rates have tremendously diminished, we still have to make considerable progress, in order to eliminate global poverty. When almost a billion people live below the international poverty threshold in 2019, it should be our number 1 priority to eradicate the problem from its root. It is of high importance that we establish firm social protection systems, especially in the countries in need, in order to efficiently shield vulnerable groups and people with low or no income. In my opinion, the only way to accomplish the 2030 Agenda is through obliterating poverty, because food, proper education, clean water, decent work and justice can be acquired only if we end poverty. As the UN Secretary General has stated “…Rebuild trust by bringing people together around common goals. Unity is our path. Our future depends on it”.

Deputy Secretary General

Hello, I am Chrysoula Gkana, the Deputy Secretary General of RhodesMRC 2019 and I would like to welcome you to the 10th edition of the best conference in the Balkans!

Hard-working, passionate, spontaneous, caring, professional

Chrysoula Gkana was born and raised in Thessaloniki. She is a trainee lawyer and currently she is pursuing her LL.M. studies in International and European Legal Studies, in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her love for MUN conferences burst out in 2011, when she first participated in a French simulation in The Netherlands. Ever since, she have been an MUN – addict, having participated in a plethora of simulations in English and in French, both as a delegate and as a chairperson, in Greece and abroad. This year will be her fifth participation in RhodesMRC. In this year’s conference, she has the honor, but mostly the pleasure, to serve as the Deputy Secretary General in the best and fairest conference of the Balkans. This conference is definitely her favorite, as it combines the highest academic level, a very interesting agenda, the opportunity to exchange knowledge with people from all over Greece and abroad and of course to visit Rhodes, one of the most beautiful and interesting destinations in Greece!

RhodesMRC Memory

As a girl, I hate bugs. Last year, I remember that Rhodes was so humid, and I was trying to avoid all insects I saw. During a break from the sessions, I was explaining this fear to my delegates, until one of them told me “look up”. When I raised my head, I saw a huge bug hovering over me! I started running as fast as I could, so as to avoid it. Suddenly, everyone burst out laughing and making fun of me, so I started laughing as well!
