SDG 17
The sustainable development goal that I prioritize is no other than Goal 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”. Fact is Goal number 17 binds all the other goals together and stands as a personal reminder on why we are participating in such simulations like RhodesMRC in the first place. Because, it is with universal partnerships and the determination of the global community that we will promote and safeguard a sustainable development in various sectors of life. Therefore, when we get to simulate the national leaders across the world for five days, we practically understand how the SDGs are poised to test the cooperation amongst all actors within a multi-stakeholder platform, which is the key to advance the effectiveness of the sustainable development agenda.
AU President
My name is Erato, I am 22 years old and during the exciting 10th University Edition of RhodesMRC you will find me chairing the African Union, an experience I wholeheartedly anticipate!
Optimistic, Energetic, Caring, Fast-Learner and Encouraging
Erato Fessatidou, born and raised in Thessaloniki, is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Law. As a high school student, she entered the world of conferences with her participation in national and international sessions of the European Youth Parliament. Having realized her interest for international law combined with international relations, she then participated in consecutive simulations of RhodesMRC, ThessISMUN and BISMUN.
Alongside her MUN experience, she serves as a member of the Organising Committee for a Panhellenic Model United Nations and a Panhellenic Debate Tournament both in Greek for high-school students. Even more, she has fulfilled an internship at the Directorate of the United Nations at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her extra-curriculum hobbies include volunteering as a debate coach for several high-schools in Thessaloniki, as well as in YMCA summer camp in Chalkidiki.
She finds that RhodesMRC stands as her “highlight of the year”, whilst she holds the position of the President of the African Union for the University Edition and will serve as the Secretary General for the High School Edition. Her love for debate, brainstorming and networking will be her allies throughout this year’s conference, while she can not wait to meet old and new friends at picturesque Rhodes.
RhodesMRC Memory
It was conference day one of RhodesMRC 2018 with me serving as the Commissioner of the Council of the European Union. As we headed towards our venue for the first time alongside our staff members, I realized I forgot my glasses at the hotel where I was staying. So when I returned back to the hotel alone to grab them, I now had no idea how to find the venue. Despite the consecutive phone-calls with my co-chair, there I was, lost somewhere in Rhodes with all the delegates of our committee already seated and ready and everyone waiting for me. After 15’ of me stranding hopeless and panicked, a -saint- staff member finally found me and we rushed to the venue. What a way to start your first ever chairing experience..!!
