SDG 10
In my opinion, one of the most significant goals of sustainable development is to reduce inequality within and among countries (goal 10). Inequality challenges our social, economic and political sector and therefore, we should aim to eliminate legislation that allows discrimination and yearn for better institutions for all, irrespective of age, sex or origin. An event of great magnitude concerning this goal was the ECOSOC special meeting on inequality. This meeting underlined the importance of the commitment to this goal by bringing experts together and by recommending plausible solutions to the problem. Such initiatives are great and should take place more often. Our civil society, academia and politicians should concentrate on global challenges, particularly inequality and meet more often in fora and interactive panels in order to exchange views, raise public awareness and make a difference. For our part, we should engage with civil society and talk openly about inequality whenever we witness it.
ECHR Vice-President
Hello, my name is Daphne Farmaki and I would like to welcome you all to RhodesMRC 2019. Get ready to be part of the most unique conference in Greece!
Ambitious, stubborn, passionate, diligent, dynamic
Daphne Farmaki was born 20 years ago in Athens, where she still lives. She is an undergraduate student in the Law school of Athens, filled with compassion, curiosity and optimism. She is particularly interested in philosophy, commercial law and international relations. The latter lead her to complete this year an internship in the Greek ministry of foreign affairs.
She speaks fluently english, German and French and preoccupies herself with all manner of issues. For as long as she can remember, she has been curious about human potential, the impact of ideas and a ‘better world’ in all possible ways. Her adventurous MUN journey began in high school and since then, it became a habit and a passion. She has participated in numerous simulations in Greece and abroad, both as a delegate and a student officer and has worked on many issues, particularly disarmament, international security and international courts. RhodesMrc holds a special place in her heart because of the great memories in Rhodes, the academic excellence of the conference in general as well as the heated debate in the League of Arab States, in which she participated.
When she is not debating or arguing passionately on political issues, she enjoys theatre, cinema, storytelling and literature.
RhodesMRC Memory
I remember last year I was a delegate in the League of Arab States while my best friends participated in the Middle East Peace Conference. The night before the last day of the conference, they had a committee gathering at night at the lobby of the hotel, where a crisis was announced to them. They were so caught up with what could this crisis bring and how they should react, so we made scenarios all night. The scenarios became extra dramatic and fun, when we discussed them over wine. But paradoxically the next day some of them were confirmed.
