SDG 10
The 10th SDG entitled “Reduce inequality within and among countries” focuses on the empowerment of lower income earners and the promotion of economic inclusion of all people regardless their age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status. Economic growth itself has not managed yet to improve the lives of the weakest and, thus, there is still an intensive need for inclusiveness, namely for policies adapted to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations as well. I consider this Goal one of the most important ones, since it reflects to my eyes the meaning of the First Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which characteristically states that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”.
CoE President
My name is Manolis Antonakakis and, as the Chairperson of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe of RhodesMRC 2019, I would like to warmly welcome you to the 10th edition of the conference!
Friendly, open-minded, hard-working, active, perfectionist
Emmanouil (Manolis) Antonakakis was born and raised in Chania, Crete. He is currently studying at the Department of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His academic interests include International and European law, Human Rights and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Thus, he has participated in a serious of such-related competitions, courses and conferences. He has just finished an internship in the Legal Office of the Municipality of his hometown, while the upcoming year he will have the honor to work as an Intern at the Permanent Representation of Greece in the European Union in Brussels, Belgium. He is active member of the Department of Thessaloniki of the European Law Student’s Association (ELSA Thessaloniki), while the previous academic year he served as Director for External Relations of ELSA Greece. He speaks four languages and he is currently focused on getting his degree and activism.
He discovered his passion for simulations back in 2016, when he joined the family of RhodesMRC. Since then, he has participated in numerous simulations of UΝ committees, EU Institutions and other regional organizations’ bodies, not only as delegate, but also as Chairperson and Member of the Secretariat. He strongly believes that an educational simulation is a great experience that every student has to live at least once.
RhodesMRC Memory
In 2016, I represented Albania in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It was my first experience in the magical world of simulations and I couldn’t handle neither my excitement nor my anxiety. I was so nervous that when the first Voting Procedure started instead of exercising my voting rights, I just stated present! I will never forget the reaction of my Chairpersons! I am sharing this story in order to encourage all participants to not be afraid of making mistakes, since we have all made a lot!
