SDG 5

All 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals are equally important for me, as they cover most of the aspects of human and social life. Nevertheless, I have a special bond with a specific SDG- namely n.5 “Gender Equality”.  Being a woman and at the same time seeing other women in the whole world struggle about their rights, made me focus on this Sustainable Development Goal. In many simulations in the past we have dealt with matters that are connected with the Gender Equality, we have tried to find realistic solutions about the empowerment of women, the equal chances that they should be given in education and work, ways about their non-discrimination, and we have condemned unacceptable violations of women’s rights, such as genital mutilation and child marriage. For all these reasons, it would be a pleasure for me to have the opportunity in RhodesMRC 2019 to discuss about this Goal!

AU Vice-President

I am Maria Angelopoulou and it is my honor to welcome you to the African Union. I am an undergraduate Law student from Thessaloniki and MUNs are my biggest passion!

Charismatic, Intelligent, Charming, Hardworking, Dynamic

Maria was born in Thessaloniki in 1998, but raised in Lesvos and Volos. Currently, she is an undergraduate student at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the faculty of Law. Although her favorite field is Criminal Law, she is also deeply interested in diplomacy and international relations. That is the reason why she really loves MUN conferences. In the last 3 years, she has participated in a plethora of MUNs and other simulations, both as a delegate and as a member of the Board, in Greece and abroad as well. What is more, she is the Vice-President for the Student Trainee Exchange Programme of the European Law Students’ Association of Thessaloniki. Apart from participating in MUNs, she spends her free time going to the cinema and theatre, playing the piano and travelling as much as she can! She is more than enthusiastic for the anniversary edition of RhodesMRC 2019, not only because last year’s experience in RhodesMRC was a unique one for her, but also because she is going to be a member of the Board in a Committee that truly intrigues her, with two other colleagues, who she considers real friends. She cannot wait to meet everyone in Rhodes!

RhodesMRC Memory

My participation in RhodesMRC 2018 last October left me full of wonderful memories. However, what stands out in my mind is the Opening Ceremony. The location- the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes- is undoubtedly an “ornament” in the Medieval City of Rhodes and it was an honor that we had the opportunity to attend the Opening Ceremony in such a monument, while in other conferences opening ceremonies are being held in typical event venues. Moreover, the Ceremony was accompanied with live music from the band of the armed forces and with a variety of snacks!
