SDG 10
It would be really tough for one to choose which goal to support most out of the 17 SDG’s. However, luckily enough for me, I have had the chance to be part of a workshop related to goal number 10, about reducing inequalities. In November, I was a member of a team of people that came from different backgrounds (some students, journalists, volunteers, experts, Christians, Muslims, Jewish), all being educated and engaging into conversations and exercises regarding the discriminations against Muslim and Jewish in Greece. The workshop was called MURAL (Mutual Understanding, Respect and Learning), and it was held under the auspices of the British Counsil. The experience was very eye-opening, touching and really impactful, if we take into consideration how much we discovered on the field, how much we grew regarding our perceptions on other religions and even how determined we left, wanting to be part of change.
EU Commissioner
Greetings! I am Georgia, a student of International and European Studies. In life, I value variety and challenge, and hopefully you will experience them as well in RhodesMRC 2019!
Enthusiastic, hard-working, determined, talkative, indefatigable
Georgia was born 21 years ago in Athens but has origins from a village in Corinth. Having spent most of her life in Athens, she can always appreciate a great opportunity for travelling elsewhere. Favourite city so far is Copenhagen (probably because she hasn’t been to Paris or Berlin yet). She is studying International and European studies at the University of Piraeus. During the spring semester of this academic year (2019-2020) she is in Slovakia with Erasmus+ for her studies. Besides that, Georgia is a researcher in the Unit of Politics and International Relations at SAFIA, since past October. Her first simulation was during high school years, which was a watershed in making her realise what she would like to do as an occupation in the future. However, she still hasn’t discovered what her true passion is. RhodesMRC 2019 will be her fourth simulation, first one as a Board Member.
Apart from academic interests, Georgia loves writing as a hobby, creative outlet or even for relief.
RhodesMRC Memory
My first RhodesMRC was in October 2018. The closing ceremony was to take place at a beautiful open space. We took our seats, all dressed up, I was wearing my favourite bright blue suit, smiling with joy for the times we’ve had during the simulation, when it started pouring. The rain was so thick, everybody started looking for cover. I loved it, being so unexpected and purifying. The organising committee did a great job finding another place to hold the ceremony, but that element of slight adventure and “off the tracks” feeling made the night unforgettable.
