SDG 5

All of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are more than crucial in order to ensure planetary stability in many fields. However, the goal that I am more familiar with is the Goal number 5: “Gender Equality”. As a fact, there has been a progress made concerning gender equality and women’s empowerment in comparison with the past. Nonetheless, there are still countries where women struggle with the social norms and the traditions, while their rights are keep being violated in the fields of work, income, politics, education, etc. It is unacceptable to observe in the 21st century the ever increasing phenomena of rape, domestic violence and job inequalities, while on the contrary the whole world is trying to find a balance between prosperity and regulatory stability. We all have once witnessed even the smallest incident of verbal sexual abuse. It’s about time for each country and any individual to take action!

ECHR Judge-Rapporteur

Hello everyone! My name is Marilia Adamou and I would like to welcome you all in this amazing experience, RhodesMRC 2019!

Passionate, Hardworking, Dynamic, Cooperative, Extrovert

Marilia was born in Athens and she currently lives in Thessaloniki. She is studying in the Faculty of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, while her academic interests are Public International Law and International Organizations. Her passion has always been the protection of human rights and thus she has been involved into several NGOs, offering humanitarian assistant to refugees, while she is currently working for METAdrasi. Moreover, she has been member of the Rhetoric Group of Thessaloniki, she is currently member of the European Law Students Association and she speaks English, French and German. In the meantime she loves travelling, singing and creating handmade jewelries.

During the last years, she has participated in several academic projects, among which were several MUN conferences and other simulations of the European Union, Regional and International Organizations, both as a delegate and a head delegate. All these contributed not only to deepen into the international world, but also to create amazing friendships.
This year will be her third time in RhodesMRC, serving as Judge Rapporteur at The European Court of Human Rights and she wishes for a memorable experience, full of fruitful debates and unforgettable moments on the beautiful island of Rhodes.

RhodesMRC Memory

The most beautiful moment that I recall so far when I think of RhodesMRC, was two years ago during our last session in African Union, when we all closed our laptops and put aside our papers, and we started dancing and singing “Waka waka (This time for Africa)” by Shakira. It all began with my best friend having two diplomatic warnings and consequently he was forced to sing all by himself “Σε πήρα σοβαρά” by Sarbel as a “punishment”. I have to admit, he is far than being a good singer, let alone a good dancer (yes, there is evidence)!
