Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is the largest regional organization oriented towards sustaining security. The organization originates from the 1975 Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) held in Finland (Helsinki) and its 57 member states are situated in Europe, Asia and Northern America.

The political dialogue held by the organization covers the three dimensions of security, namely the politico-military, the economic and environmental, and the human; thus, it offers comprehensive responses to critical security issues. The topics addressed within the organization’s forums include arms control, terrorism, good governance, energy security, human trafficking, democratization, media freedom and national minorities. The majority of OSCE’s staff and resources are dedicated to its field operations that take place in South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia and are critical for the implementation of successful policies regarding crisis prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation.

The decisions of the organization are politically binding and are taken by consensus.

The Chairmanship for 2018 will be held by Italy.

The topics to be discussed are:

Topic Area A: The situation in and around Eastern Ukraine; fostering peace, stability and security in the region of Donbass
